DIY Junkies Unite!

I'd like to consider myself a very artsy-crafty person (Is that even a phrase???)

Anyways, I absoloutely love DIY projects... As if I didn't have enough going on, I still make time for the other things in life that make me happy.

Every so often, I scour the internet, looking for some really cool ways to reuse and repurpose items I have laying around the house... Items my husband would love to throw into the trash; he calls me a hoarder; a few of my friends do also... I can't help it; i mean, why would you throw away something that you can turn into something much more useful... and not to mention beautiful???

It has been about a year since I first started collecting wine bottles... I just couldn't bring myself to toss them. I even thought of keeping them just to refill with Punch-de-creme (let's just say its the Caribbean's spin on the famous eggnog) which I usually make for Christmas. After hearing my husband complain on many occasions about the "junk" I have stacked in the cabinets, I decided to, once and for all, do something about it... What did I do? I searched the net for wine bottle crafts and oh it was love at first sight... Ok I got a little carried away there, but you know what I mean.

So... cutting to the chase now... Wine Bottle Craft... Simple... Easy... Beautiful!!!

You will need: 1/2 Cup Epsom Salts

1 Yard of Ribbon (of your choice)

Twine/ String (I used burlap string)

3 wine bottles (Washed, tags taken off, dried)

Glue (Craft glue)

1 Can Spray paint (I used Bronze)

3 Medium Plastic bags

1 pair of disposable gloves

Painting tape/ Scotch tape

1. Spray bottles, holding can about 10-12 inches for even, ripple-free coating.

Let dry for about 10 minutes (yes this stuff dries pretty fast)

For different designs, I marked the bottle with tape, when the paint was dried, I carefully peeled it off. As you can see, I used plastic bags to rest the bottles on while in the process of spraying. (Be sure to paint in a well ventillated area to avoid breathing in fumes)

2. Place Epsom salts into a bag (This makes application and clean-up much easier)

Put on gloves, evenly spread glue all over the areas where you'd like to the "Sparkles" to stick. Place glued bottle over bag, and apply Epsom Salts in an even layer, making sure you get as much onto the bottle as possible. Gently shake the excess Epsom Salts off before setting the bottles to dry.

Unfortunately, I got a few scratches onto the bottles while handling but that's fine... when I was done, I didnt even notice the imperfections.

3. Add String, bows, flowers.... whatever design you prefer using, Fasten with glue and let dry.

I used Burlap String to make a bow... Cut a 3 inch piece of string and set aside. Wrap string around your three middle fingers about 10 times. Remove and using the 3'' piece of string, tie the middle of the "bow". Cut ends, and with a fine tooth comb, comb through to give that "pom pom" effect. Finally trim ends and fasten to the bottle with glue.
