Easy Whole-wheat Ciabatta
Makes 1 loaf
Excellent for making sandwiches, this bread holds up to moisture very well... as for the taste?... Simply delicoius; crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside and sooo easy to make. Ciabatta is a wonderful bread, but getting down to the fine-print of making it from scratch... its very labour-intensive and not to mention, time-consuming. I've put together this recipe for busy moms just like myself. Yes, it does take time, but you won't regret trying it... I didn't!!!
Ingredients
-
1 Cup warm water
-
2 Tsp yeast
-
1 Tsp sugar
-
2 Cups white flour
-
1/2 Cup Whole wheat flour
-
1/2 Tsp salt
Directions
In a mixing bowl, dissolve sugar and water; add yeast and allow to stand for about 10 minutes ( mixture should be frothy)
Add white flour, whole wheat flour and salt to yeast mixture and with a wooden spoon, mix. Dough should look tacky... cover with plastic and let stand for 6-8 hours.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly until it is no longer sticky.
I love sprinkling corn meal on my dish or baking sheet before putting my bread on... it prevents the bread from sticking and gives it a wonderful crust!!!
Form into a loaf (Doesn't need to be perfect), and cover; letting the dough rest for an additional 30 minutes.
Place into a 425 F (218 C) preheated oven and bake for 20-30 minutes.
Enjoy!!!
